Q-Pork Chains
More than 50 organisations from 21 countries will work together in the next five years to improve the pork production processes. For this purpose the EU and partners from the industry are providing them with 20.73 million Euro. GIQS and a number of GIQS members are also taking part in this major project. Through their involvement in research as well as in pilot and demonstration activities GIQS and its members are altogether in funds of 18% of the total budget of Q-PorkChains.
The objective of Q-PorkChains is to improve the pork production processes. It is the so far largest research project in the field of meat science financed by the EU Commission (EU 6th Framework Programme). It is being coordinated by Professor Dr. Anders Karlsson of the University of Copenhagen. Project partners are from the area of market research, animal production, meat science, molecular genetics, quality management and agriculture economics. The project modules reflect all facets of the pork production chain.
GIQS coordinates the implementation of the results into practise. The international platform for public-private co-operation in research and development has the assignment to manage the application oriented research in companies, pilot chains and networks. 1.5 million Euro is reserved for pilot activities which will be assigned to industry partners during the course of the project (through competitive calls).
Furthermore GIQS takes on the role as „SME Liaison Office“, to inform Small and Medium sized Enterprises (SMEs) throughout entire Europe about the development and results of Q-PorkChains and to support their involvement in project activities.
